Autumn Term 2

Our topic this half term is all about the weather and seasons. The question we will be investigating is:

Does the sun shine when it snows?

We will be looking at the seasons, different types of weather and stories and poems associated with the weather. In Science the children will be investigating weather and using their observation skills.

We are taking the children to Chill Factor to explore the snow first hand and to meet a very special person!

Our first text is Footprints in the snow.

We would like to invite you to our Friendship assembly on Thursday 16th November at 9.15 am.

In the last week of the term we will be celebrating Christmas and we will be performing a nativity.(More details to follow).

The children really enjoyed celebrating Halloween and bonfire night last week, especially toasting marshmallows!

Thank you for all your support so far this year.

Autumn Term – Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

We are really pleased with how well the children are settling into their new classrooms and getting to know the new routines and adults. Everyone has had a great first week back at school.

Our topic this term is ‘What’s Super about you?’ We will be learning about the body, our senses and how we have changed.  Our first text will be Superworm and we will be finding out about his adventures and superpowers. We will be creating a story map and writing a recount of the story and innovating our own versions of the book. In geography we will be exploring where we live and finding out about our local area. Please talk to your child about their home address.

To finish our topic we are having a superhero day where your child can come to school dressed as their favourite superhero and take part in lots of ‘super’ activities (date and more details to follow)

Our class author this term is Julia Donaldson and we will be reading lots of her fantastic books.

Our PE lesson will be on Monday. Please ensure your child has their kit in school and is named.

If you have any further questions or concerns please come and speak to me before or after school and a suitable time can be arranged to discuss matters further.

Many thanks

Mrs S Townsend
